Whether you’re a runner, biker, hiker or climber, you can enhance your performance with the right athletic gear. Even if you are just starting out with a new exercise regimen, finding the appropriate footgear is just as important. You don’t want to get side lined just because the wrong socks gave you blisters.

The Impact on Your Feet

Minor foot issues (such as blisters, or calluses) can turn into debilitating injuries once you begin putting significant stress on your feet. In addition to exacerbation of small foot problems, rigorous exercise can leave you with swelling in your lower legs and ankles. This swelling is caused by a decrease in the body’s ability to circulate fluid away from extremities in combination with the ever-present force of gravity. Once the tissues become swollen and circulation is decreased, those minor injuries will become much tougher to heal. However, compression socks can help relieve fatigue and muscle soreness, thus enhancing recovery.

Compression Socks

The idea of compression socks no doubt arose from the positive results seen with medical compression stockings. We know now that you don’t need to have a medical problem with circulation to benefit from the use of compression. These socks reduce the swelling in the lower extremities and provide a mechanical boost to circulation of the legs and feet.
